GALLATIN, TN – Terryauna Griffin was lethal on both ends of the floor Saturday afternoon against Volunteer State, going for 29 points and a handful of steals, as Walters State picked up an 87-47 win.
With the victory, the Lady Senators won their fifth straight and improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in TCCAA play.
"Happy with how we started and finished the game," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "We have to turn around Monday and play again, so we will have to rest and focus back in."
Along with Griffin's strong effort, Kyra Perkins had 13 points and Raegan Starks and Nyjah Gibbs each had 12 points. Anaya Mulholland-Natt was the other Lady Senator in double figures with 10 points, while Jahliya McDonald had eight points and Morgan Williams three points.
Griffin started her impressive outing from the jump, scoring 10 points in the first quarter as Walters State built a 19-10 lead. Four other Lady Senators scored in the quarter, as well.
It was Starks who heated up in the second quarter for Walters State, going for six points. Walters State scored 21 points in the quarter, Griffin had six more and Mulholland-Natt hit a three, and the Lady Senators led 40-22 at the break.
In the third, Griffin hit five more shots and poured in 11 more points while Perkins and Gibbs each knocked in six points to make it a 28 point quarter for the Lady Senators. Walters State led 68-41 going to the final 10 minutes.
In the fourth, it was the defensive effort that shined for Walters State. The Lady Senators held Volunteer State to six points while scoring 19 of their own. Mulholland-Natt led the way with five points, while McDonald and Starks each had four points.
