
WILLIAMSBURG, KY – Walters State picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday evening, taking down University of the Cumberlands JV by a 74-57 score.
With the win, the Lady Senators improved to 1-2 on the season.
"We will take a road win with this young group in a tough arena," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "We just need to grow up more and adjust to the way the game is being called. We didn't do a great job of that tonight."
Kyra Perkins led the way with 28 points, one point shy of her career-high. Along with Perkins, Anaya Mulholland-Natt had nine points while Alexis Hood had eight points. Other scorers were Terryauna Griffin with seven points, Nyjah Gibbs with seven points, Raegan Starks with six points, Morgan Williams with five points and Jahliya McDonald with four points.
The Lady Senators got off to a strong start in the game, breaking out to a 22-11 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Williams had five points to lead the way, while Hood and Starks had four points each.
In the second, Perkins began to take over as she scored seven points to give Walters State a 37-24 lead at the break. McDonald, Hood, Griffin and Mullholland-Natt each added two points.
The third quarter was more of the same, as Perkins scored seven more while Gibbs added four points. Hood and Mullholland-Natt had two each, as Walters State led 52-39 going to the fourth.
In the fourth, Perkins scored 12 points to lead the charge as the Lady Senators scored 22 fourth quarter points to take the win.
