
MORRISTOWN, TN – Alayna Ross homered two more times on Friday afternoon as Walters State picked up 10-2 and 6-4 wins over Jackson State.
With the sweep, the Lady Senators improved to 18-13 overall and 8-2 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: Walters State 10, Jackson State 2 (5 Innings)
In game one, Ross homered and drove in four runs to lead Walters State to a run-rule victory.
Along with Ross, Imari Golden went a perfect 3-3 and picked up two RBIs while Allie Seritt doubled and drove in two runs.
In the circle, Emma Myatt got the start and threw her second straight complete game. Myatt allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five in her five innings of work. It was Myatt's fifth win of the season.
Jackson State struck first in the game with a run in the top of the first but back-to-back errors to open the bottom of the first allowed Addison Beech and Kendal Mason to reach, and Ross drove them all in with a three-run homer.
Walters State added to their lead in the bottom of the second, as Ross singled home Beech and Brooklyn Copley singled to score Mason to make it 5-1. Jackson State got a run back in the top of the third, but Walters State scored five in the fourth to make it 10-2. Those runs came on a McDaniel RBI single, a Golden two-RBI single and a two-RBI double by Seritt.
That was the final as Myatt got two strikeouts and a ground out in the fifth to end things.
GAME TWO: Walters State 6, Jackson State 4
In game two of the day, Ross homered one more time while McDaniel hit her first home run of the season.
Ross went 2-2 in the game and now has 15 home runs on the season to go with 46 RBIs. Ross is now first in the conference and second in the country in home runs.
Along with Ross, McDaniel hit her home run and drove in four runs.
In the circle, Summer Smith got the start and threw four innings. Smith allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out two. Lauren Ruehl replaced Smith in the fifth and threw the final three innings. Ruehl gave up two hits and struck out three.
The Lady Senators got on the board first in the game as McDaniel singled home Beech in the opening inning to make it 1-0. In the third, the Lady Senators added to the lead as an error scored Mason and McDaniel smacked a three-run home run to make it 5-0.
However, Jackson would work themselves back into the game with four runs in the top of the fifth. Needing a response in the bottom half, Ross led things off with a home run into the trees in left field to make it 6-4.
