Lady Senators sweep Dyersburg State, 7-0 and 15-7

DYERSBURG, TN – Walters State got the bats going and got a great pitching effort from Emma Myatt on Saturday against Dyersburg State, taking 7-0 and 15-7 wins over the Lady Eagles. 

With the wins, the Lady Senators improved to 13-10 overall and 3-1 in TCCAA play. 

GAME ONE: Walters State 7, Dyersburg State 0

In game one, Myatt was excellent in the circle as the Lady Senators picked up the shutout win.

Myatt threw six innings in the game, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out three. Lauren Ruehl pitched the final inning for Walters State, striking out two.

At the plate, Olivia Neese and Emma Keck each had two hits and two RBIs while Abbie Young picked up two hits. 

The Lady Senators struck first in the top of the first inning, as Randi Delong singled home Addison Beech and then scored on a passed ball later in the inning. The final run of the inning came on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded that scored Alayna Ross to make it 3-0.

That was the score until the sixth, as the Lady Senators scored three more runs. Neese got things going with an RBI triple and then scored on an RBI single by Keck. Later in the inning, Keck scored on an error to make it 6-0.

The final run of the game came in the seventh, as Keck singled home Young to make it 7-0. Ruehl struck out two in the bottom half and closed out the win.

GAME TWO: Walters State 15, Dyersburg State 7 (5 Innings)

In game two, the Lady Senators collected 15 hits and picked up the run-rule win.

Kendal Mason and Young each had three hits in the game to lead the way. Young drove in four runs, while Mason had two RBIs. 

In the circle, Makayla Ramsey got the start and threw 2.2 innings. Ramsey gave up five runs, all were unearned, on two hits and struck out one. Ruehl replaced her with two outs in the third and threw the final 2.1 innings, striking out one while allowing two runs on five hits. 

Again, the Lady Senators struck in the top of the first, this time for four runs. Mason started things off with an RBI double and came around to score on an RBI double by Young. Ross then doubled home Young to make it 3-0, and it was 4-0 as Ross scored later in the inning. 

In the third, Walters State blew the game open with nine runs. Those runs came on a Nora Mack two-RBI single, an Emma Keck two-RBI single, a Mason RBI single, a Young RBI single, an Allie Seritt RBI double and an error that scored two runs to make it 13-0.

Dyersburg got on the board with six runs in the bottom of the third, but Young made it 15-6 in the fourth on a two-RBI single that scored Mason and Beech. Dyersburg got a run in the bottom of the fifth, but that was all.
