Lady Senators drop two games to No. 15 Chattanooga State

CHATTANOOGA, TN – Walters State battled close with No. 15 Chattanooga State on Wednesday but fell twice, losing 2-1 and 7-3 to the Lady Tigers. 

With the losses, the Lady Senators fell to 18-17 overall and 8-6 in TCCAA play. 

GAME ONE: No. 15 Chattanooga State 2, Walters State 1

In game one, Allie Jones pitched six strong innings but the Lady Senators managed just two hits and one run. 

Jones allowed just two runs, one earned, on four hits in her six innings of work and struck out one. 

At the plate, Randi Delong homered for the Lady Senators' lone run. The other hit for Walters State came from Imari Golden.

Chattanooga State got on the board first in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly, but the Lady Senators tied the game in the top of the fifth on a solo home run by Delong. 

However, in the bottom of the fifth, a single and an error scored a run for the Lady Tigers and that was all they needed to take the 2-1 win. 

GAME TWO: No. 15 Chattanooga State 7, Walters State 3

In game two, three errors by the Lady Senators proved to be the difference in the defeat. 

At the plate, Delong added two more hits and an RBI while Addison Beech had a hit and RBI. Alayna Ross hit her 18th home run of the season, as well, while Emma Keck had two hits. 

In the circle, Makayla Ramsey got the start and threw 2.1 innings. Ramsey gave up six runs, only two earned, on six hits and struck out two. Emma Myatt replaced Ramsey with an out in the third and threw the final 3.2 innings. Myatt gave up one run on two hits and struck out one. 

The Lady Senators got on the board first in game two, as Beech reached on an error to open up the game and scored on a two-out single by Delong. Chattanooga State answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, but Walters State cut the lead to one in the second as Keck doubled and scored on an RBI single by Beech. 

Unfortunately for Walters State, the Lady Tigers scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to go up 6-2. The Lady Senators got a run back in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by Ross, but Chatt State hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-3.

Walters State will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting Cleveland State. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 pm ET.
