
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State closed out their final home games of the season on Wednesday afternoon, picking up 9-0 and 15-1 wins over Pellissippi State.
With the sweep, the Lady Senators improved to 29-18 overall and 19-7 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: Walters State 9, Pellissippi State 0 (5 Innings)
In game one, Lauren Ruehl pitched a one-hit shutout in the win.
Ruehl struck out four in her five innings and has now allowed just one run in her last 17 innings of work. During that stretch, Ruehl has three wins and three saves.
At the plate, Brooklyn Copley and Alayna Ross each homered and drove in three runs. The Lady Senators had nine hits in the game.
Following a run in the first on a groundout by Emma Keck that scored Olivia Neese, Walters State broke things open with eight runs. Copley started things off with a solo home run, and Ross smacked a three-run homer later in the inning to make it 5-0. It was 6-0 after a sacrifice by Randi Delong that scored Kendal Mason and 8-0 after a two-RBI double by Copley. The final run of the inning came on an RBI double by Ruehl that made it 9-0.
From there, Ruehl was money as she allowed just one hit in the fourth and didn't walk a batter throughout.
GAME TWO: Walters State 15, Pellissippi State 1 (5 Innings)
In game two, the Lady Senators homered six more times as they picked up the sweep.
Copley led the way with two more home runs and three RBIs, while Jaelyn McDaniel homered twice and drove in three runs. Other home runs came from Abbie Young and Sarah Short, while Kendal Mason also had two hits and three RBIs.
In the circle, Emma Myatt got the start and threw three innings. Myatt allowed one run on six hits and struck out five. Summer Smith replaced Myatt in the fourth and pitched a clean inning before Makayla Ramsey struck out two in the fifth to close things out.
Three runs crossed the plate in the first for Walters State, as Copley smacked a two-run home run and Short followed her up with a home run. In the second, the Lady Senators made it 5-0 as Mason tripled home Allie Seritt and Neese grounded out to score Mason.
In the third, Pellissippi got a run but the Lady Senators smacked two more home runs in the bottom half as McDaniel hit her first home run of the game and Young smacked a two-run shot that made it 8-1.
The final seven runs for Walters State came in the fourth inning when McDaniel hit a two-run home run, Copley smacked a solo homer, Mason doubled home two runs and a passed ball scored Seritt and Mason to make it 15-1.
