
MORRISTOWN, TN – The lone sophomore for No. 23 Walters State, Kyra Perkins went out with a bang in her final game on Carlyle-Kragel Court Saturday afternoon.
Taking on Jackson State, Perkins finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Senators picked up a 67-54 win over the Green Jays on Sophomore Night.
With the win, Walters State closed the regular season with a record of 22-5 overall and 19-1 in TCCAA play.
"Blessed to be able to play today and get a win," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "We will now get back to work and prepare ourselves for the conference tournament.
"I am happy to see Kyra play in her final game on Carlyle-Kragel Court and be able to come out with a win."
Along with Perkins, Terryauna Griffin finished with 23 points and collected nine rebounds. Other scorers for Walters State were Raegan Starks with eight points, Morgan Williams with five points, Jahliya McDonald with four points, Anaya Mulholland-Natt with four points and Ellie Linx with three points. Starks and Nyjah Gibbs each had seven rebounds, as well.
Jackson State came out flying to start the game and led 11-4 early. However, Walters State got back into it as Perkins hit two free throws and Williams scored five quick points to tie the game. Jackson State led at 13-11 and 15-13, but Griffin scored seven in a row to make it 20-15. It was 22-15 after a basket by Starks, and Walters State led 22-17 after one.
In the second, Walters State led 29-24 with three minutes to go in the half but ended the half on a 7-0 run. During the run, Perkins had three points while Griffin and Starks both scored. The Lady Senators led 36-24 at the break.
The third quarter saw Jackson State cut the lead to 40-35 before Perkins took charge with five straight to get the lead back to 10. Jackson broke the run with a point, but Griffin scored, Perkins scored, Griffin hit two free throws and Starks scored to make it 53-36. Jackson State scored the final three points of the quarter, but it was 53-39 heading to the fourth.
In the fourth, the Lady Senators did enough to comfortably take the win. Perkins scored six points in the final 10 minutes, while McDonald had four and Starks and Mulholland-Natt each scored.

Walters State will begin their postseason run next weekend in the TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament at Southwest Tennessee. The Lady Senators will play their first game on Saturday at 12 pm CT.
