
MEMPHIS, TN – Walters State's Terryauna Griffin was named the TCCAA Freshman of the Year and Co-Offensive Player of the Year on Saturday, while Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year.
Along with the special awards, Griffin and Kyra Perkins were named to the All-TCCAA First Team.
Griffin was named Freshman of the Year and Co-Offensive Player of the Year after a phenomenal freshman season. Griffin was second in the conference, averaging 17.5 points per game, and first in the conference with 170 made field goals. Griffin had 81 steals on the season and recorded 54 assists.
Griffin scored 20+ points in 10 games during the regular season, including a 32-point game against Jackson State, a 31-point game against Dyersburg State and a 30-point outburst against Southwest Tennessee.
Coleman was named the Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career. During the 2024-25 season, Coleman led Walters State to a 19-1 TCCAA record and a TCCAA Regular Season Title. Coleman's Lady Senators have been ranked for seven weeks this season. Coleman's teams pride themselves on defense, and the Lady Senators are first in the conference in opponent's field goal percentage per game at 32.4%.
Last year's TCCAA Freshman of the Year, Perkins was named to the All-TCCAA First Team after a strong sophomore season. The lone sophomore on the team, Perkins was third in the conference in points per game averaging 15.6 points. Perkins averaged 5.9 rebounds per game, as well, while also totaling 62 steals. Perkins made 159 field goals and 82 free throws.
Perkins' best games of the season came in her final two games of the regular season. Against Motlow State, Perkins had 28 points and 14 rebounds and followed it up with a 20 point, 10 rebound game against Jackson State. Perkins also had a 35-point game against University of the Cumberlands JV earlier in the season.
